Top 10 Most Popular Dogs in Australia in 2021

Pet Insurance Australia announces the top dog choices of 2021

The lists comprise a good mixture of purebred breeds, crossbreeds, and poodle mixes.

“With so many Aussies becoming proud pet parents and deciding to insure their pets, we get a really good understanding of the current trends when it comes to the choice of dogs entering homes,” Nadia Crighton from Pet Insurance Australia says.

“It’s great to see that this trend is right across the country, with many states sharing the exact same dog types in their top 10, in different orders.”

“The dogs featured are all well-known for their family-friendliness and loving natures so it’s no surprise that these choices are echoed nationwide.”

With many Australians’ welcoming the pitter-patter of pads over the summer, Pet Insurance Australia is quick to note the importance of patience.
“Always choose your pets from reputable breeders or consider adoption,” Crighton says.
“A dog can be a 16-year or more commitment so it’s vital the process is well-thought-out and that you are purchasing a sound puppy from the onset.”

Good breeders will have waiting lists and will screen owners for their suitability to the breed.

“Always do your research on your chosen breeder,” Crighton recommends. “This will not only prevent Australians from being caught up in the rife puppy scams, but it can also help prevent pet parents from purchasing a sick puppy that can incur much heartache and costly veterinary bills.”
