Patch & Purr Pet Cremations opens in Illawarra

Paws for thought about Pet Cremation...

As the relationship between fur babies and their families continues to strengthen in Australia, pet owners are grappling with how to say goodbye and mark the loss of their faithful companions.

Australia has one of the highest rates of pet ownership in the world with an estimated 24 million pets taking residence in 62 percent of households.

But the increasing closeness between humans and their animal companions leads to a more intense grieving process and a desire to farewell their pet in style.

Patch & Purr Pet Cremations is celebrating that bond between pets and their owners with the Illawarra launch of its first pet crematorium and implementation of innovative tracking technology so owners can easily discover through their vet where their pet is throughout their journey.

The Pet Tracker 360 ensures the ashes that are returned to an owner are those of their companion, and only their companion.

Patch & Purr General Manager Davina Bambrick said the grief surrounding the death of a pet has grown as pets become more ingrained in the family lives of Australians.

“All pets, but particularly dogs and cats, have a greater role in family life today than they have ever had in the past,” she said. “A huge proportion of owners see their pets as valued members of the family and after caring for them throughout their lives, want to respect their memory and grieve their passing in a special way.

“Having a pet cremated, scattering their ashes or holding a funeral service to help children deal with their loss is an important aspect of that and at Patch & Purr, we strive to make that transition as seamless as possible.

“With the Illawarra crematorium now open we can provide a much-needed service that is completely transparent. While this is innovative for the industry, it is really about peace of mind for our clients.”

Patch & Purr Pet Cremations is located at 230 Kanahooka Road, Kanahooka (
1h30 South of Sydney), NSW, 2530 and is Australian owned.

Patch & Purr offers pet cremations in Sydney, Blue Mountains, Wollongong and Central Coast.
