Humans aren’t the only ones who need to look after their dental hygiene to keep their pearly whites in mint condition. A staggering 80% of dogs and cats have dental disease, which in most cases, is preventable [1].
To promote good dental health in Aussie pets, Greencross Vets are launching their dental campaign to encourage dog and cat owners to be on top of their four-legged friends’ dental health.
Greencross Vet clinics across the country are offering free dental checks for dogs and cats and $50 off scale and polish if required after their dental check-up. This offer will run from now to 31 August 2019.
Dr Veronica Monaghan, Chief Veterinary Officer at Greencross Vets says: “We would like to encourage Australian pet owners to visit their Greencross Vet clinic to take full advantage of our offers and get their pets’ dental hygiene checked. We encourage pet owners to speak with one of our experts about preventative dental care and the best way to tackle dental disease.”
Dr Monaghan is urging pet owners to keep an eye out for key indicators of dental disease and review their pet’s dental health regime.
“Simple signs to look out for with dental disease in pets include bad breath, discolouration, plaque or tartar build up on teeth, pawing at mouth, difficulty eating or loss of appetite, redness/inflammation of gums, bleeding around the mouth and finally swelling under the eye, which may be a sign of a dental abscess,” Dr Monaghan says.
“Luckily, in most cases, dental disease is preventable in pets. Regular dental checks teamed with daily brushing, dental diets, treats, and toys can all help combat the problem of dental disease in pets,” Dr Monaghan continues.
