Registration of Pets Available at Service NSW

New Transaction at Service NSW Gets Tail Wagging ...

Dog registration is easier than ever with pet owners across NSW now able to pay the once only lifetime registration fee through Service NSW.

The convenient service allows pet owners to register their pet and pay the registration fee over the counter at nearly 100 Service NSW centres around NSW, or online using their MyServiceNSW Account.

In addition to Service NSW, dog and cat owners can register their animals at their local council, Animal Welfare League, Cat Protection Society or online through the NSW Pet Registry.

Along with microchipping and de-sexing, lifetime registration is a key part of being a responsible pet owner.

In NSW it is a requirement for all cats and dogs to be microchipped and placed on the NSW Pet Registry by the time they reach 12 weeks of age, or prior to sale, whichever comes first.

In NSW pet owners must pay the one-off registration fee if the animal is aged six months or older.

Discounted registration fees apply to de-sexed cats and dogs. Having dogs desexed helps to reduce straying, fighting, aggression and antisocial behaviour.

Pet registration fees go straight back into the community by funding council pounds/shelters, ranger services, dog recreation areas and education and awareness activities.

The NSW Pet Registry (www.petregistry.nsw.gov.au) lets pet owners update their contact details, report their pet missing, transfer ownership and pay lifetime registration fees all from a computer or mobile device.

Making sure pets are firstly microchipped, then lifetime registered and the owner’s details are up to date on the NSW Pet Registry are the best ways to ensure pets and their owners can be reunited if they go missing.

More than 137,000 pet owners have created an online pet profile since the NSW Registry was launched in 2016, with 3.1 million cats and dogs now on the Government’s official register.

The NSW Pet Registry had a revamp in late 2018 with a fresh look, enhanced navigation and a range of great new feature including:

#1. Upload a photo of your pet

Pet owners and breeders can upload a photo of their pet on the Pet Profile page to help identify and return the animal should it get lost;

#2. Lost and found

If the microchip number of a lost cat or dog is known, a member of the public can use the Registry to send a secure message to the pet owner with their contact details alerting them that they have found their pet;

#3. Search function

Prospective pet owners can use the Registry to find out important information before buying a cat or dog. Using a microchip number, they can access the animal’s breed, age, gender and whether or not it has been de-sexed; and

#4. Create/add a litter

Breeders can create a litter and add offspring to their online pet profile, making it easier for vets to update new animal records with microchip numbers.

Further enhancements are expected in 2019 to improve digital pet registration in NSW.
