2018 Werriwa Wiener Dash Bungendore - Jan 28

Have you ever been to a Dachshund race? If not, you really don’t know what you’re missing! They may not be the fiercest of competitors but they are certainly fun to watch!

To look at a Dachshund, you wouldn’t think they would make a very good racer? They are compact and very low to the ground, with short legs. But just like some people who don’t know that they are smaller, these dogs give it their all, well at least some of them do! Others just stand around sniffing each other decide to run off into the fields.

In 2016, The Bungendore Show hosted the inaugural Werriwa Wiener Dash which was the first Dachshund Race to be held in the Capital Region.

With over 120 Dachies and their parents in attendance, and it was a roaring success with people coming from across Australia to see these little power packs run.

Due to popular demand, this event was expanded in 2017 with 16 heats throughout the day. There was also a Para-Wiener Dash for those special Dachshunds who were elderly or living with a disability that precluded them from otherwise running.

The Para-Wiener will return in 2018, and for the first time there will be puppy races for dogs six months and under.
There will be 8 races in the morning and 8 races in the afternoon with each session culminating in the presentation of the trophies for the Layla Cup and Peanut Gift

The Dapper Dachshund is always a highlight of the day and allows those dachshunds with a passion for fashion to strut their stuff on the Bungendore Show 'dog walk'. As with other Fashion on the Fields events, competition is strong with everyone vying for the title.

The Werriwa Wiener Dash would like to thank My Dachshund Online and Love ‘Em Pet Treats for kindly donating prizes for this event.

Entry to races and the Dapper Dachshund is $2 per event with all funds raised going to Dachshund Rescue Australia
