Dogs ACT Dog Sports Extravaganza - July 7-9

Over 2,500 dogs will be on show when Advance Pet Nutrition and Dogs ACT host the EPIC ADVANCE International Dog Show and Sports Extravaganza at Exhibition Park in Canberra.

From Affenpinscher to Xoloitzcuintle, and all breeds in between — Canberra will be the canine capital from Friday 7th until Sunday 9th July 2017.

The three-day event includes five conformation shows along with a number of dog sport activities, bringing together hundreds of dogs, owners and breeders from across Australia, who will all compete for the highly prized title of ‘Best in Show or Trial’

Spokesperson for Dogs ACT, Judith Woolley, said that the Dog Sport competitions will include events such as Agility, Rally-O, Obedience, Flyball, Dances with Dogs, Weight Pull, Junior Handlers and a Grooming competition, some within the indoor heated pavilions of Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC).

Weight pull is a relatively new dog sport with less than 100 participants across Australia. Competitors qualify by pulling a four-wheeled trolley carrying 12 times their bodyweight in besser blocks.

“Choosing the best canine in each class and event presents a daunting challenge for the judging panel which includes international judges from Norway, Brazil, Japan, South Africa, Canada, Israel and New Zealand,” said Ms Woolley. “2017 is the second year for this event, which we hope will continue”.

“The weekend’s celebrations will include a special Supreme Dog Challenge, Rising Stars, Amish Challenge, Junior Handlers and a Breeders Team competition along with a Grand Parade of the Veterans – not to be missed.”

Each day starts at 9am but you will need to check the programme to see when everything is on. This is the programme for Saturday 8th July, the official Open Day.
