As of 1 April 2026, RSPCA Pet Insurance has entered a new era. Through a strategic partnership with Pacific International Insurance, the RSPCA has moved beyond a traditional underwriting model to take a seat at the governance table. This shift gives Australia’s leading animal welfare charity a direct voice in policy decision-making and ensures that premiums contribute more than ever before to animal care initiatives.
Is Your Premium Still Helping Animals?
There is a crucial detail for existing policyholders: Any RSPCA-branded policy started before 1 April 2026 stayed with the previous underwriter and no longer contributes to the RSPCA.
"We warmly invite all such customers to 'come home' to the new RSPCA Pet Insurance," says CEO Brad Smith.

Solving the "Surrender" Crisis
This launch addresses a heart-breaking reality in Australian homes. Research from the Animal Medicines Australia 2025 report reveals that while there are 13.2 million pets in Australia, over 80% are uninsured.
The consequences are stark: 23% of pet owners have surrendered an animal because they could no longer afford care, and nearly 1 in 5 cat owners are deferring vaccinations due to costs. The new RSPCA model aims to lower these barriers through transparency and financial flexibility.
PetFlex: Customised, Not Pre-Packaged
The core of the new offering is PetFlex, a system designed to end "rigid tier" insurance. Instead of choosing a generic Bronze or Gold plan, owners can build a policy around their specific budget and their pet's actual needs.
Control the Cost: Customers select their own Annual Limit, Benefit Percentage, and Excess level.
Premium Protection: Annual limits are available up to $35,000 with no sub-limits and a single annual excess.

Direct2Vet: Ending the Reimbursement Wait
To remove "financial friction," the new Direct2Vet system changes how claims are paid. Rather than requiring owners to pay a massive bill upfront and wait for a refund, customers now only pay the gap (the difference between the bill and their cover) at the time of the visit. The clinic submits the invoice, and the approved claim is paid directly to the practice, allowing owners to focus on their pet’s recovery rather than their credit card balance.

As an independent charity with minimal government funding, the RSPCA relies on these partnerships to sustain its frontline work. In 2025 alone, the impact of these funds supported:
