Kerry Martin crowned only Australian winner in the International Pet Photography Awards

Now offering dog lovers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to feature in Dog Tales of Australia 2: Pawtraits and support charity!

Highly acclaimed pet photographer Kerry Martin of Puppy Tales has been named the only Australian winner in the prestigious International Pet Photography Awards (IPPA), the world’s largest pet photography competition!

In its sixth year, the competition saw an impressive 3,621 entries from 41 different countries. Kerry won the category Pets and People, showcasing the special relationship between humans and their pet. She also received 18 other awards across all four entry categories and, with the results achieved in 2023, this earned her the title of International Associate of Pet Photographers (IAPP).

Kerry was one of only 18 people worldwide to be part of this inaugural group receiving this title.

Kerry is so chuffed and credits her success to the incredible dogs and pet paw-rents she gets to photograph. Mr Darcy is one of those very special dogs, featured in the winning IPPA photograph.

“My Darcy works in the classroom with Amelia. While the kids love him (he has his own ID pass and gets more Christmas gifts than any other member of staff!), he's not there as an assistance dog for the students. He's there to give Amelia independence and support in her role as a teacher,” says Kerry.

Also a Master of Photography in Australia and Internationally, and a previous Australian Pet/Animal Photographer of the Year, Kerry came to meet and photograph Amelia and Mr Darcy when they were finalists in the Puppy Tales Australian Dog of the Year 2023 (2025 nominations open now).

"It was an amazing surprise and honour to even be considered as a finalist!” she says. “There's such incredible talent in the dog/pet photography community around Australia and across the globe so you don't expect such an outcome. My goal with entering awards like the International Pet Photography Awards is to participate and grow from that experience".

Australian dog lovers are in for a special treat!

Now, dogs and their paw-rents across the nation have the exclusive opportunity to be photographed for Kerry’s epic charity project Dog Tales of Australia 2: Pawtraits!

Pawtraits is a stunning coffee table book that celebrates the connections shared with our loyal companions and supports Assistance Dogs Australia, a national charity that provides fully trained Assistance Dogs to people with mobility needs, autism or post-traumatic stress.

For this new project, Kerry is travelling with her husband Sam and their dogs Keiko and Summer to every state (and nearly every region) in Australia over the next two plus years, offering her award- winning photography services to dog lovers all around the country in the creation of the book.

Dog Tales of Australia 2: Pawtraits will feature Australia’s most beloved dogs against the backdrop of the country’s stunning scenery. Participation in this project starts from $100, with $100 from each session photographed donated to Assistance Dogs Australia.

This new grand voyage comes after completing a 13-month, 56,400km caravan road trip around Australia, culminating in the Dog Tales of Australia guidebook of dog-friendly destinations across the country and raising funds to sponsor a Defence Community Dog.

“We’re su-paw excited to be on the road again, supporting Assistance Dogs Australia and photographing even more beautiful dogs!” says Kerry. “We’re revisiting cherished spots and exploring new places, capturing the essence of dogs across Australia in its vibrant landscapes.

“Your pets are family – sharing adventures, offering comfort on tough days, and being by your side through it all. We capture that bond to create stunning artwork, so you can proudly display your pet on your walls,” she says.
