We first discovered Petzyo dog food 4 years ago, shortly after the company launched their unique custom order deliver-to-your-door service. At the time they offered a grain-free Kangaroo kibble variety plus a selection of BARF raw patties but fresh food deliveries were limited to the Melbourne metro area.

Our dogs loved trialling the Kangaroo & Sweet Potato "Kibble That Counts" formula back in 2018 so we were more than happy to see how this company had evolved and recently put to the test the Petzyo Salmon & Oceanfish variety and sampled their BARF Raw Patties.
What is in the Petzyo Grain-Free Salmon & Ocean Fish Dog Food?
Petzyo dog food is made based on the number of orders received because they believe that fresh really is best!
Once your dry food has been manufactured, an unopened bag will last a long time with approximately a 2-year shelf life.
The key ingredients are Salmon, Ocean Fish and Green-lipped Mussels, packed with Omega fatty acids for optimum immune support and decreased inflammation. Mussels are also a natural source of glucosamine and chondroitin for added joint health and with both our dogs turning 9 this year, we're paying more attention to how they're moving generally.
The full list of ingredients includes: Peas, Lentils, Sweet Potato, Sunflower Oil, Tomato, Basil, Spinach, Broccoli, Carrot, Rosemary, Oregano, Parsley, Salt, Flax Seed Oil, Kelp, Turmeric, Fish Oil, Hemp Seed Oil, Yucca Extract, Green Tea and a long list of vitamins and minerals.
The Nutritional Analysis for this variety is:
Protein 26%, Fat 12%, Fibre 4%, Moisture 9%, Carbohydrates 49% delivering a Metabolic Energy (per 100g) of 360Kcal.

We used to feed a much higher protein content when our Mals were teenagers but this level is now more than sufficient to provide their daily energy requirements.
Of course, the Petzyo crew understands it's hard to know whether your dog will like a new recipe so they made it easy: they can send you a sample of the Kibble That Counts (approx. 100 grams) with 3 flavours to choose from. You only need to cover the delivery fee ($2 per flavour) but the samples are free.
All three kibble varieties are available in two bag sizes (8kg or 16kg). The Petzyo algorithm pops up for each recipe and will tailor your order size and frequency based on your dog’s age, weight and activity level.
For our 30kg Malinois Porthos, we would need to reorder every 14 days for an active lifestyle or every 17 days for a more relaxed dog. With the rain keeping everyone inside for most of February, physical activity hasn't been at the top of our agenda!
For our dog, we would feed between 300-400 grams daily (between 2 & 1/4 cup and 2 & 1/2 cup) but like us, you may consider feeding kibble as part of a mixed plan (with some raw patties for variety - more on this later!).
The kibble size for the Salmon & Ocean Fish with Green Lipped Mussels (with a diameter of 14-16mm and 4-6mm thick) is slightly bigger than the Kangaroo variety we trialled in the past.
At first, it looks small (for a medium size dog) but talking to the Petzyos team of experts - a canine nutritionist and a vet - they made them this size for a reason; to provide dogs with the 'best crunching' experience.
What is in the Petzyo Raw Royalty BARF Raw Patties?
A prior version of the Petzyo frozen raw meat patties existed in 2018 but with being in Sydney and the company in Melbourne, this option wasn’t available for us to trial at the time so we (the dogs) were very excited to finally sample these!

The frozen patties will keep in a deep chest freezer for months but always remember to take one out to move to the fridge 24-36 hours prior to feeding! A standard 2-week delivery would easily fit in your normal freezer.
Feeding these freshly frozen raw dog food patties, your dog is receiving a BARF diet that is approved by a veterinary nutritionist and exceeds PFIAA and AAFCO requirements.
What are the benefits of a BARF diet?
Frozen raw dog food provides dogs with micronutrients not found in cooked dog foods. A BARF raw dog food diet maintains nutrients such as B vitamins, Vitamin E, Potassium, and Magnesium which are often lost or degraded in foods heated beyond 48-degrees. BARF dog foods are also low in saturated fats and high in Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. We don’t even remember what the previous box looked like 4 years ago but this time round, bright, bold and colourful, our deliveries were certainly impossible to miss! Of course, your dog won’t care what their food comes in but our cat definitely conducted her routine quality assurance inspection on all the boxes...
Back in 2018 our dogs hardly ever ate raw dog food so this has been a major shift in the last 2-3 years and we now happily serve this option several times a week, sometimes mixing with dry food as part of the same meal.
