Aged care residents celebrate International Dog Day 2021

Pups and cupcakes at Arcare Parkwood’s pawsome pet event

Nothing beats pups and cupcakes.

The Arcare Parkwood Aged Care community celebrated International Dog Day to raise awareness and funds for RSPCA Cupcake Day.

At their pawsome pet event, General Services Manager Natalie baked human and pet-friendly cupcakes of different flavours to help fundraise.

Meanwhile representatives from Animal Welfare League and 4 Paws On The Floor were also there to share the amazing work they do with their dogs.

Families and friends brought along dogs of all shapes and sizes to participate in agility tests, receive free grooming services, and even compete in a fashion parade!

The dogs were dressed in their barking best with rainbow tutus and flags, character onesies and pink fairy wings.

Judges for the fashion parade included local MP Sam O'Connor, Arcare resident Pauline, and local pet groomer Lauren.

It was not an easy decision to make, but prizes and certificates were given out for “Dog with the Wiggliest Tail”, “Smallest Dog with the Biggest Personality” and more, with Maisy taking out “Dog with the Fanciest Dress.”

Maisy has been visiting Arcare Parkwood almost every day since resident Tony moved into the residence in October 2020.

His wife lives at a nearby retirement village with Maisy, making it very convenient for their regular visits.
“Maisy is a great source of comfort and encouragement to me and the other residents." Tony said.

These canine companions certainly bring smiles to our faces and a certain warmth to the residence.

“The Arcare Parkwood community is big on animals. We have dogs at the residence every day, whether its families and visitors bringing their dogs in, or our manager and her three sausage dogs," Lifestyle Co-ordinator Tadeja said.
