Petember: Dressed up Paws for a Cause - September 1 to 30

Petember - Australia’s first ever charity doggie dress-up competition - has arrived!

This special event is calling all dog fashionistas and their “hoomans” to get dressed up for good - raising funds and awareness for Assistance Dogs for kids in need. Four-legged SuPAW heroes from across the country will take on weekly costume challenges over the month of September in a bid to win prizes and score themselves special treats along the way.

A new dress-up theme will be announced each week, challenging pets and their owners to show off their PAWsonality and compete for a prize.

Our celebrity judges, Sedona the Aussie (@aussie.sedona) and Muppet & Bear (@muppetandbear) will be engaging their 120,000+ followers to get involved and are excited to see the most PAWsome dog fashions in Australia.

Our dressed up doggies will be judged on their costume originality, creativity, humour and charisma.

Our judges are joined by Petember PAWtrons: Twitch the Kelpie, Cleo the Frenchie, Snoopy Girl, Jax and Lulu, Fern the Hufflepup, Basil the French and the Skipping Girl Shihtzus – all known for their FURshion statements online!

Petember is all about good dogs doing good. We want to see as many furry friends as possible out there getting dressed up and spreading the word!

Assistance Dogs are life changing for children in need. Last financial year, Variety – the Children’s Charity Victoria funded nine Assistance Dogs for kids with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, Anxiety and Epilepsy.

This year alone, the charity has received applications for dogs totalling over $195,000, with 8 children currently on the waiting list.

Variety – the Children’s Charity Victoria CEO Mandy Burns said “we know how much pets are loved, but for our children in need, an Assistance Dog will change their life and that of their family.

When specially trained seizure-alert dogs pull a child into the recovery position or a highly skilled Autism assistance dogs keeps a child from running on the street, it is life saving and gives a gift of independence and safety that has been missing. By joining Petember and getting involved, you’re helping us make the future brighter for kids in need.”
