Pooches at Play Series 5 starts July 18

Playful pooches, puppy tips and pet-friendly travel brings TV joy back to Saturday afternoons on Channel 10

Pooches at Play returns to TV screens on Saturday 18 July at 2pm on Channel 10 and promises to bring much needed joy, entertainment and useful tips and advice for keeping both people and their pooches healthy and happy.

Following the success of Series 4’s pet-friendly travel theme, plus the dramatic rise in pet adoption and puppy ownership in 2020, Pooches at Play Host & Dog Behaviourist and Trainer, Lara Shannon, says this series provides plenty of puppy and older dog training tips and health advice, while also promoting pet-friendly travel to give hard hit regional communities a much needed boost.

“We’re really excited to be able to bring some fun and light-hearted entertainment back to TV screens with this series, while also delivering really important and useful pet care and training advice to the growing number of dog owners out there who need this information now more than ever.

“Together with my co-host Morgan Burrett and cheeky side-kick Darcy, we also visit some of the regional areas across Victoria and Sydney impacted by this year’s bushfires and COVID-19 restrictions to help promote the benefits of travelling to regional areas with your family… furry friends included”.

Dr Melissa Meehan again joins to the team to provide her dog health tips, expert guests provide plenty of pet care advice, while Lara will also be sharing key tips from her new book Eat, Play, Love (Your Dog) across the series.

Episode 1 – 18th July - Castlemaine, VIC

In this week’s episode, Morgan checks out the pet friendly things to do with your dog when visiting Castlemaine, Victoria. Learn about the Border Collie in this week’s breed profile, plus Lara provides her tips on how to toilet train your puppy, hiking with your dog and what to do if you lose a pet. Dr Mel discusses roundworm in dogs and how this zoonotic disease can affect humans; plus the usual dog nutrition, behaviour and product advice.

Episode 2 – 25th July – Sydney, NSW

Hear about some of the best pet friendly beaches to visit with your dog in Sydney and learn about the Poodle in this week’s breed profile. Lara talks ‘snuffle mats’ and keeping dogs’ brains and bodies active, choosing the right bed for your pooch and how to read and understand pet food labels. Dr Mel discusses canine cough and the role vaccinations play in keeping dog communities safe; plus other dog behaviour and product advice.

Episode 3 – 1st August – Wodonga, VIC

In this episode, Morgan checks out the things to do with your dog in Wodonga, Victoria. Learn about the German Shepherd in this week’s breed profile and Lara visits Assistance Dogs Australia to learn more about their work. She provides her top training tips for puppies and dogs, water safety advice and how to help dogs with sensitive skin through diet, while Dr Mel discusses how to keep your dog flea free. Episode 4 – 15th August – Blue Mountains/Kangaroo Valley, NSW

The Blue Mountains and Kangaroo Valley in NSW feature in this week’s pet-friendly travel segment. Learn about the Staffordshire Bull Terrier in this week’s breed profile, plus Lara demonstrates the benefits of playing brain games with your dog, puppy training tips and finds out how to prepare you pets for an emergency. Dr Mel discusses Osteoarthritis in dogs and Morgan chats with naturopath and pet food nutritionist, Narelle Cooke about food allergies and the role of diet.

Episode 5 – 22nd August – Bendigo, VIC

In this episode, hear about the pet-friendly things to do with your dog when visiting Bendigo in Victoria. Learn about the Labrador in this week’s breed profile, plus Lara provides her tips on puppy socialisation, camping with dogs, and explores the benefits of pet ownership. Bondi Vet’s Dr Kate Adams discusses good heart health; plus there’s the usual dog nutrition, behaviour and product advice.

Episode 6 – 5th September – Lilydale, VIC

In this episode, find out about the pet friendly things to do with your dog in Lilydale, Victoria and learn about the Dachshund in this week’s breed profile. Lara provides her tips on camping with dogs, discusses the importance of independence training and visits Melbourne Zoo to learn more about saving the Mountain Pigmy Possum and how you can help. Morgan talks again with Narelle Cooke about the hidden sugars in your dog’s diet and also learns about the threat of Leptospirosis to dogs in urban areas. Dr Mel give her tips on administering medication to pets; plus other dog health and product advice.

Episode 7 – 12th September - Bairnsdale, VIC

In this episode, learn about the pet friendly things to do with your dog when visiting Bairnsdale, Victoria, as well as the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in this week’s breed profile. Lara provides tips and advice on how to address puppies that chew, crate training puppies and older dogs, and keeping dogs safe in the warmer weather. Morgan finds out about the benefits of a raw food diet from Narelle and hear about the Rescue Awards plus other health and product advice.

Episode 8 – 19th September – Brisbane, QLD

In the final episode for Series 5, Morgan heads to Brisbane and due to restrictions, leaves Lara to visit the Melbourne Zoo to learn about the enrichment program for the African Wild Dogs. Find out what you need to consider when fostering or adopting a dog and learn about the Maltese in this week’s breed profile, plus Lara provides her top tips for training a cat. Hear about the deadly paralysis tick and how to keep your dog safe, plus pet food regulations and other nutrition, dog health and training advice.
