Next, a special treatment is applied to the fur or ashes in order to preserve the carbon during the extraction of unstable chemicals by an impurity remover.
The purified material is then heated to extreme temperatures in order to eliminate volatile impurities. At this step, oxygen is removed and inert, protective and reducing gases are injected to protect the ashes or fur from oxidation.
The carbon from the cremated ashes or fur is placed in a wet chemical environment so as to increase purity by removing heavy metals. At the end of this final purification step, the carbon purity is as high as 99.99% (4N Purity). If this is not the case, additional customized purification steps are implemented to remove the specific remaining impurities.
The purified, extracted carbon is converted into flake graphite in form of a cylinder and then placed into a diamond synthesis machine. The transformation from ashes to a pet memorial diamond takes anywhere between 3 to 12 months, depending on the gem’s features.
Rough memorial diamonds are usually mixed with graphite and other materials, particularly on the surface. You can request to have this delivered as is or opt for the gem to be cut, polished and set in jewellery such as rings, pendants or earrings. You may pick the diamond’s final colour, cut and carat according to the characteristics that best represent your pet.
