This year, the Melbourne Dog Lovers Show (Nov 27 - Nov 29) is going over and above to fetch new attractions and take fan-favourite features to the next level for dog lovers to experience the pure joy of dogs – one thousand times over! Now one of the largest canine festivals in the world, the Show returns to Melbourne for the eighth time, bringing to heel more than 1,000 dogs, 120 breeds, unmissable attractions and 250 exhibitors all under one wroof at the world heritage-listed Royal Exhibition Building.
CEO and Founder Jason Humphris said: “Since 2013, Event Management International (EMI) has been uniting the dog-loving community with an annual celebration of the joy our four-legged friends bring us.
Along the way, we’ve created an iconic festival, grown one of the country’s largest networks of passionate dog devotees and most importantly, succeeded in improving the quality of life for our faithful companions through education to make better pet parents.”
“Our 40,000 loyal visitors attend to seek out advice about dog breeds, training tips, health and well-being, with some of the most skilful dogs from around the country showing off their talents. We also have our biggest expo yet this year with over 250 exhibitors showcasing all the latest and greatest products and services for fur-kids with a huge array of special offers for visitors. We are also soon to announce a fundraising initiative to support wildlife affected by the recent bushfires,” Humphris said.
The amazing K9 Ninja Challenge returns to wow crowds in the Vitapet Arena with an all-new ‘Doglympics’ edition.
Awe-inspiring demonstrations from dog trainer Rodney Gooch and his 4 Paws Team will see pooches jump, catch, retrieve and hurdle their way across the Arena in spectacular displays of agility. New attraction, the Husky Sled Dog Tours, will give city-slickers a taste of the snowy alps as trained Huskies show their impressive sled-pulling and sled-racing skills in a safe, simulated environment.
In a Dog Lovers Show first, free doggy-inspired manicures will be available from nail artist to the stars, Clara H Nails while, just next door, the Prosecco Parlour will pour bubbly for grown-ups.
Crowd-favourite Insta-Pooch will hit the Main Stage for the first time with an all-star line-up of furry social media sensations set to strut the red carpet as MC Brodie Young introduces their adoring owners. Australia’s most recognised celebrity vets, including the much-loved Dr Harry Cooper, will also hit the Main Stage, offering free educational advice for owners wanting to learn more about what makes their furry friends tick, and tips to becoming the ultimate pooch-parent.
Back at the Vitapet Arena, attendees will marvel at amazing canine athleticism with Dr Katrina Warren and Kelly Gill returning with the brilliant Border Collie trio, the Wonderdogs.
Out in the forecourt, the iconic Black Hawk Dockdogs make a splash in an enormous 100,000-litre pool with daily sessions of Big Air® (long jump), Extreme Vertical® (high jump) and Speed Retrieve® competitions.
Australian Working Dog Rescue Inc (AWDRI) and their impressive team of professional working dogs will showcase extreme dog high-jump and sheep herding demonstrations inside a mock-paddock. The best of the best will compete for a coveted ‘top-dog’ title, against the clock, in the Sheepdog Speed Trials.
On the hunt for a new fur-ever friend? Over 30 leading rescue shelters will feature at this year’s Adoption Zone with free talks from shelter representatives on the neighbouring Adoption Stage, providing a glimpse into the rewarding world of adoption.
More than 50 breed clubs will take part in the Breed Showcase; offering advice, education and of course free pats with an A-to-Z of canines from puppies to adults.
The Bow Wow Meow Perfect Match Zone will be a hub of information for visitors looking for the right breed to match their lifestyle and award-winning dog groomer, Melanie Newman, will offer primping products and expert advice in the Ask-A-Groomer Zone.
