Pound Paws Dog Day at Sydney Uni - October 26

Pound Paws in partnership with University of Sydney Union (USU) are bringing the dogs through the gates of Sydney University on Saturday 26th October from 12-4pm!

Pound Paws Sydney Uni Dog Day will provide students and Inner West locals with the opportunity to meet rescue dogs, learn from key speakers from the animal welfare industry, as well as sink beers and enjoy several paw-some pet related activities throughout the day.

When it comes to making a positive impact, we need to turn to the younger generation, as they have the power to help sculpt the future. We need to invest knowledge and resources into today's largest-ever generation of young students, to ensure that they can optimally contribute and speak out for our furry friends.

With roughly 200,000 happy and healthy pets getting euthanized each year, we need as much support to end this cycle and the first step towards this is education.

We are delighted to announce that for this event we will be hosting a Pound Paws Dog Day first, where we will introduce a dedicated workshop/session room, where key speakers in the Animal Welfare industry, from RSPCA NSWDeaf Dogs Rescue Australia to University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Sydney will be educating the students and Inner West community on topics ranging from responsible pet ownership to pet health as well as the importance of pet adoption.

Pound Paws Founder, Brittany Bloomer is passionate about raising awareness a about pet adoption, “The reason I started Pound Paws charity, was after a in-depth discussion with Tim Vasudeva from Animals Australia. He took the time to educate me about the reality of backyard breeding to irresponsible pet ownership and how it’s contributing to the huge numbers of pets ending up on death row each year. I hope that this particular event can influence the students, in the same way I was influenced to make a change”.

Pound Paws hosts dog adoption events every month in different areas across Australia. Their dog adoption events are held to help raise awareness about pet adoption, as well as assist rescue centres and pounds with the overall adoption process.

Ben Pinney from USU Access is recognised for creating an excellent environment on campus for students in the USU. This will be their first venture with Pound Paws. He is looking forward to helping raise awareness about pet adoption to not only students on campus, but the local community too.

The event will be taking place at Courtyard Restaurant and Bar, a trendy spot inside campus in the Holme Building. The doors will be open to all dog lovers.

Guests can expect paw-some activities ranging from: Rescue Dog Adoption Parade, Pet Aura Readings and even Puppy High Tea Sessions.

Don’t miss out on the popular Best Dog Trick / Best Dog Costume competition with a celebrity judging panel including: Scott Lee (Home & Away Actor), Jelisa Apps (Channel 9 Host), Maluka & Avalon (Doggie Influencer) & @Lewis_Cavoodle (Doggie Influencer)
