Topdog Boutique Designer Dog Accessories - Review

We don’t often shop for dog accessories but when we do, it’s always online these days and at the top of our list are high-quality items that will last and not fast fashion!

Shopping online means we can browse through a wide range of styles until we find the perfect match for one of our dogs and check (and recheck) their measurements without anyone putting pressure on us to buy right here right now...

Until now we have shied away from reviewing online pet stores but when dog mum Alex approached us to cover her business Topdog Boutique we were so impressed by her inspired selection of unique pet brands that we felt other dog owners would love discovering these options too!

Topdog Boutique was created out of a combined passion for and background in design by Alex and inspired by Romeo, her four-legged best friend.

Launched only last July, Topdog Boutique shines a spotlight on one-of-a-kind designer items for dogs and their owners. The brand’s image is young and trendy however you don’t have to be a fashionista or your house a beacon of modern design to find something to fall in love with that will work with your own style and budget!

Part of Alex's mission is to make a difference by helping paws in need with 5% of sales donated each year to a chosen animal charity that is close to her heart - this year's charity is the RSPCA.

For us, the winter months are really all about Sleep and Snuggle and it’s the same for our pets...

#1. Sleep & Snuggle

Under that section, you’ll find a great selection of high-end dog cushions, dog beds, dog travel mats and blankets.

Our dogs are lucky to share our bed at night time but during winter our house is mostly an icicle so all couches and beds end up covered in throws and blankets to keep everyone comfortable.

We fell in love with the Föra Blanket from Polish brand Labbvenn as it looked so soft and fluffy!

The double-sided blanket is made of a blend which perfectly imitates natural fur and it looks just as beautiful on either side. You could pair this elegant and fashionable item with a matching Labbvenn dog bed but for us it worked just as well thrown on the bed or the floor to provide extra warmth on cold mornings.

At 70cm x 50cm it's quite small for our large dogs but it would be the perfect size to wrap up a small or medium size pooch who enjoys the finest things in life! There are two stylish colours Silver or Cappucino to choose from to match your décor.

RRP: $75.00 from www.topdogboutique.com.au

#2. Play time

A long string of cold rainy days this month meant a lot more time was spent lazing about and cuddling with toys.

Topdog Boutique offers designer dog toy brands like The Foggy Dog (San Francisco), Mia Cara as well as Melbourne-based Molly Barker

We love the look of The Foggy Dog canvas squeaker dog toys, all made from a durable
upholstery-grade cotton canvas.

The eco-friendly fiberfill is made from 100% recycled plastic bottles and is specially formulated for pets.

Each toy is handcrafted in San Francisco and you can pick from a gorgeous choice of fabrics. It was very hard to choose just one but our top pick was the Boho Birds Midnight.

The Foggy Dog - Dog Bone is quite small (11.5cm x 19cm) for our Malinois and was not designed to be chewed so probably not a toy I could give without supervision but for a smaller or gentle dog (or our new kitten Arya), it is both adorable and a great source of fun!

RRP: $19.00 at www.topdogboutique.com.au

#3. Walk

Over the years, we would have spent most of our dollars on dog accessories but luckily for us, this
is the most comprehensive section on the Topdog Boutique website, where you’ll find a host of exciting brands to keep your dog stylish on all your outings.

Most of the brands featured were totally new to us: Max-Bone, Fetch & Follow, Nice Digs, Molly Barker, The Foggy Dog, Park Barkers, Herzog, Mia Cara, Benji + Moon etc.

Whether you’re looking for a traditional leather look, a softer suede finish or would only choose eco-friendly options, you'll be spoilt for choices with dog collars, matching leads in a huge variety of designs, colours and sizes.

We opted for the clean speckled design of the Fitzroy Grey Collar & Lead from Melbourne Park Barkers
With a neck size of 43cm, Aramis was on the cusp of fitting the Medium (up to 41cm) but not quite so we had to go up to the Large (42cm-51cm).

That would usually be an issue because you end up with an unsightly overlap that totally ruins the look but high paws to Park Barkers for their unique concealed size adjustment - using a clever Velcro strap. The tab on the underside of the collar was easily adjusted and then securely locked into place with convenient hook and loop panels.

Over the years we’ve used collars with both hardware and plastic buckles but found those to be much more hard-wearing to suit our lifestyle. No scratches from our dogs' rough and tumble play and they're easier to clean and maintain. The collar's convenient slide release buckle also made this collar a breeze to put on and take off.

Both collar and leash are made from supple recycled rubber material paired with a tough nylon webbing base. The metal D-ring used to secure the lead looks and feels very sturdy. A
dditional metal D-rings at the base make it easy to tether your dog if needed whilst the D-ring at the handle is handy for attaching a dog waste bag holder or your treat bags.

This lightweight style includes a reflective tab for added night-time safety and a branded woven label.

RRP:
$69.95 for the lead; $59.95 for the collar at www.topdogboutique.com.au

#4. Wear

The Wear section is where you’ll find a great selection of pet apparel: Max-Bone dog raincoat and jumpers, rororiri dog sweaters, bow ties and dog bandanas from rorori and The Foggy Dog.

The floral fabrics used by The Foggy Dog for their dog bandanas are stunning but living in outer suburbia, we went for a more classic navy and white stripes look!

Our pick was the rorori Zola bandana for that extra boost of style on special outings. Handcrafted in San Francisco, each rororiri bandana is finished with a button hole and signature gold button for a sleek and refined look.

Our favourite feature were the funky boho fringes and being 100% cotton, this dog bandana will be super easy to wash and iron.

RRP: $48.95 at www.topdogboutique.com.au

We could only sample of small fraction of what's on offer on the Topdog Boutique online shop but recommend bookmarking their page if you’re looking for that one-of-a-kind accessory for yourself or a gift for a dog lover that’s outside the box.

If your dog bowl is ruining your home design or you’re looking for a stylish idea for a dog lover, Topdog Boutique again offers unique colourful ceramic bowls and minimalist concrete troughs.

Finally, we were also impressed by the care Alex took to find out what would best work for our pack and how our order was wrapped and presented.

There are so many new online players that selecting one can be daunting task but the Topdog Boutique gets big a thumbs up from us and I expect many more Australian pet owners will learn to appreciate their unerring eye for style and top notch customer service!
