Greyhound Rescue celebrates 10 years with Fundraising Dinner - July 6

Greyhound Rescue to hold ten-year anniversary bash in July

Dog lovers of any kind are invited to buy tickets to Greyhound Rescue's 10-year anniversary black-tie bash in Sydney on Saturday 6th July 2019.

Peter FlannGreyhound Rescue (GR) co-founder, said the event which is called Ten Greyt Years is being held to celebrate an exciting milestone for the charity.

"We're celebrating ten years of ethically rehoming Greyhounds no longer wanted by the racing industry," said Peter. "

Since 2009 when my wife Janet founded Greyhound Rescue, we've re-homed over 1,000 Greyhounds. It's been a tough but rewarding journey which has consumed our retirement and continues to do so."

He said the charity is keen to see the public attend and enjoy the night with GR's many volunteers. "We’d be delighted to have dog lovers celebrate with us at our black-tie fundraising evening at the beautiful Dockside, Cockle Bay Wharf on July 6th," said Peter.

He said there will be delicious food, drinks and live entertainment to enjoy, as well as a silent auction to bid in and other fundraising activities to further support GR's cause.

"The night will be hosted by the effervescent Portia Turbo, with live performances by talented musician Alexei Pigot and hilarious comedian Lizzie Hoo. This will be a birthday party to remember," said Peter.

Both Peter and Janet Flann want to thank those who adopted Greyhounds from the charity over the last ten years and for their increasing support recently, with a 55 per cent jump in adoptions for the first quarter of 2019.

"During the January to March period in 2018 there were 29 Greyhounds adopted, while in the same three months this year, 52 dogs found permanent homes via GR, " said Janet.

She said the increase in adoptions was for several reasons, including: having more space in the new kennels near Camden, an increase in dogs arriving which were already de-sexed, better use of Instagram, more volunteers being on hand to process applications and more people are realising that Greyhounds make great pets.

“Also, going forward, GR’s annual campaign – April is ‘Adopt a Greyhound month’ – continues to help with 20 greys on trial adoptions last month, which is about a 300 plus per cent increase on April last year, ” said Janet.

“As usual we won't know for sure until each trial is finalised, although we have few returns due to matching hound personalities to each adopting household. All our volunteers should be congratulated for their part in this amazing achievement.”
