Each year thousands of lost dogs are submitted into pounds when they don’t need to be. And now Park Your Pet, a Melbourne-based app, is delivering a platform to help local dog lovers communicate with each other and their councils whilst learning useful information about the regions they live in.
This free app was created to keep dog owners and their pups up to date with local dog events, important news and the local laws of the area. Inside the app you can see all the ON and OFF leash parks in your area, as well as the facilities they provide. This allows users to choose the best local park for their needs or explore other parks.
“We developed the app because we realised that there was not nearly enough communication between dog owners, which is essential to keep dogs safe and social in their local community” says co-founder Alex.
If a user loses their dog, they can post an ad about their lost dog, once it’s approved everyone in the area can see this ad and help get the lost pup home by directly messaging the owner on the Park Your Pet app.
“This means that dogs are reunited with their families faster and without the added cost and stress of going to the pound” says Alex.
Users can also receive messages directly from their council about important dog related issues such as re-registration deadlines, vaccination updates, changes to park facilities or severe weather events.
The Park Your Pet news feature is full of information about dog wellness, health and happiness tips. Regular articles are posted by veterinary doctors, Dr James Tiernan and Dr Rod Graham who provide veterinary insight into the health and wellbeing of your dogs.
Together with the Victorian dog community, Park Your Pet is creating a tight knit, educated and protected dog community.
