Amy, the founder of the Sydney-based studio The Soft Hours, knows this feeling well. Following the loss of her 12-year-old Golden Retriever, Daisy, Amy realised that traditional memorials—generic paw prints or stock-image posters—simply didn't match the depth of what she was feeling. She began needle-felting as a way to "hold" her grief, and today, she helps others do the same through her single guiding belief: that the love we have for our animals deserves to be truly, tangibly held.

Every piece from The Soft Hours is handcrafted in Amy’s Sydney studio using hand-dyed merino wool, wire, and patience.
Working from your photos, Amy sculpts a lifelike miniature of your pet—capturing not just their colouring and markings, but the particular tilt of their ears or the softness around their eyes that made them them. There are no factories or shortcuts; just an enormous amount of care.
"Pet loss is a disenfranchised grief," Amy says. "People are often expected to move on quickly.
I wanted to create something that said: No, this mattered. They mattered."
