Popcorn with a Paw-pose: Laneway Cinema announces pet-friendly movie night in partnership with Sydney Dogs & Cats HomeOn Wednesday 21st January, the Laneway Cinema at The Rocks is hosting an extra special pet-friendly screening, where Sydney’s animal lovers and their furry friends can enjoy films together while raising vital funds for Sydney Dogs & Cats Home.
Laneway Cinema has announced Sydney Dogs & Cats Home as its movie night charity partner this January. By purchasing ‘Popcorn with a Purpose’ at the free cinema, visitors can help raise vital funds for animals in need, with 100% of proceeds going directly to the charity this month.

Funds raised through the partnership will support Sydney Dogs & Cats Home’s housewarming appeal for its new Kurnell facility.
Donations will go towards essential items such as cat pods, cleaning systems, toys, bedding and finishing touches that create a comforting and nurturing environment for the thousands of animals who will soon benefit from the expanded shelter.
Every year the charity reunites, rehabilitates and rehomes thousands of lost, abandoned and neglected pets through lifesaving veterinary treatment, safe shelter and community education programs.
Karen Kalpage, Head of Fundraising and Marketing at Sydney Dogs & Cats Home, said: “We’re thrilled to see creative community initiatives like Laneway Cinemas and Popcorn with a Purpose bringing people together to support the sick and injured animals in our care.”
“It’s such a great way to help provide comfort, vet care and a loving environment for animals in need, while enjoying a night out.”“The generosity of the community will help us turn the new Kurnell facility into a true home for the thousands of lost, abandoned and neglected animals who will pass through our doors this year.
“We simply couldn’t do this without the generosity of the community, and we are so grateful for every donation, big or small, that brings us closer to giving these pets the safe, nurturing second chance they deserve.”
As a first for Laneway Cinema, January brings movie marathons, so visitors can enjoy they favourite flicks back-to-back, tickets include both movies in a single session! As a special treat, the first 30 pets that join us will receive a free doggy bag with treats.
Now in its fifth year, Laneway Cinema is an initiative of Placemaking NSW which transforms The Rocks’ historic cobblestone laneways into a free open-air cinema experience each summer.
Through partnerships with local not-for-profit organisations including Sydney Dogs & Cats Home, Laneway Cinema offers Sydneysiders the chance to enjoy a free outdoor movie experience while supporting causes that give back to the community.
January’s Movie Marathon line-up includes:
- Mean Girls and Jaw Breaker (furry friend special) – Wednesday 21st January, 7pm-10.30pm
- Friday and The Barbershop – Wednesday 28th January, 7pm-10.30pm
While tickets are released online each Monday, walk-ins are warmly welcomed on a first-come, first-served basis. Whether you are a dedicated film buff or just looking for a unique way to support a lifesaving local charity, grab a beanbag and join us for a night of cinema that truly gives back.
