Newly refurbished Illinois Hotel goes dog-friendly

Man's best friend now welcome at Five Dock's Illinois Hotel

All-new Inner West pub goes dog friendly – four legged friends welcome on National Puppy Day (23rd March 2021), and everyday!

Pints and pooches will be the order of the day at the Illinois Hotel in Five Dock from this week when the Inner West watering hole goes dog-friendly, welcoming four-legged friends in to check out the pub's new digs.

“It’s great to be able to welcome dogs into the Illinois ahead of National Puppy Day. We know dogs play a big part in people’s lives – they do for most of the staff at the venue - and we have such a great big beer garden space, that it’s easy for us to give people the choice to bring their fur babies with them. Our family dog Cosmo the lab loves it in here, it’s great to be able to bring him when we’re always popping in and out,” said Bill Young, owner of the Illinois Hotel.

The new dog friendly rules at the Illinois will be in place for National Puppy Day tomorrow, Tuesday March 23, and will remain ongoing.

With a huge outdoor beer garden a key attraction of the newly renovated venue, there are dog bowls for pampered pooches – and the Illinois’ doggy doo’s and don’t are simple. Dogs must be on a leash at all times, dogs are only permitted in the beer garden, no barking, biting or begging – and they ask owners to please pick up after their pooch.

The new venue also boasts the biggest TV in a Sydney pub at a huge 8 metres by 2.7 metres which can be watched from the dog friendly beer garden.

A new Fat Belly Jacks food truck is also located in the beer garden and from this week is serving up Nashville fried chicken, burgers and bar snacks like Dumpster fries, cheeseburger spring rolls and Jalapeno poppers seven days a week (it was previously just Wednesday-Sunday).

Using recipes developed over years of research, Fat Belly Jacks boasts the most authentic Nashville fried chicken outside of Nashville. With heat level ranging from mild to ‘really f#cking hot’, there is something for everyone with wings done four ways, as well as chicken tenders and other snacks.

The Illinois Hotel is the latest pub venture for ex-Wallaby prop and Inner West publican Bill Young.

The recently re-launched hotel has undergone an extensive renovation bringing a luxe Beverly Hills meets Palm Springs vibe to the venue with pastel colours, pink neon lighting with the new Flamingo logo and bespoke finishes in brass, timber and marble, breathing new life into the once tired venue.

A 17 metre custom made curved green leather lounge and a specially made 12 metre curved bar topped with Carrara marble and inlaid with timber and brass take centre stage in the public bar.
