The fourth annual Just For Pets Save a Life Day happens this Saturday 18th August around the country, with the aim of rehoming as many animal shelter pets as possible.
With an estimated 400,000 animals abandoned every year in Australia, there are calls for animal lovers to express their true feelings and help Just For Pets save a pet’s life on Saturday August 18.
The idea is the brainchild of national independent pet store chain Just for Pets, teaming up along with their member stores and associated rescues.
“Save a Life Day is a wonderful opportunity to adopt a pet as well as raise much needed funds to help rescue organisations care for the huge number of animals that require veterinary care, food and shelter every year.”
Save a Life Day is important because:
“Pet lovers can help by giving one of these pets a loving home or just by coming in-store to have some fun with our raffles and giveaways to help raise much-needed funds.”
“Just For Pets stores helped 70 shelter pets find fur-ever homes on Save A Life day in 2017, and we hope to do even better this year.”

Save a Life Day is important because:
- Animals can spend up to two years waiting in animal refuges because pet lovers don’t often come face to face with them. Making an animal visible so pet lovers see it is the key to re-housing and adoption.
- It raises awareness of the importance of pets in our lives. Pet ownership brings with it many health benefits including more physical exercise, less anxiety and stress, as well as lessons for children (and sometimes even adults!) on responsibility and empathy.
- It provides an opportunity to fundraise for pets in need Just For Pets stores will have a range of fundraising activities in store with all proceeds going back to their chosen rescue organisation to aid in the veterinary treatment of the animals within their care.
