New York Pet Fashion Week 2017 - Feb 9

Did you know that there has a been a Fashion Week for Pets running in the US for the past 13 years? Since we follow so closely all US trends, we can’t wait to see when and where the first one will be held in Australia: Sydney or Melbourne?

In the meantime, we took a closer look at the more than 150 furry fashionistas who gathered together for the 2017 New York Pet Fashion Show on Thursday 9th February at the Hotel Pennsylvania.

The theme of the night was "Global Couture for Animal Rescue". Animals and their humans alike dressed up in elaborate costumes inspired by cultures around the world with a portion of the profits from ticket sales donated to benefit the Mayor's Alliance for NYC Animals.

Despite the snowstorm conditions, more than 700 people showed up to the “dogwalk” overlooking Madison Square Garden last Thursday night - including people from 10 different countries and 25 different states in the U.S., according to Gregg Oehler, president of Oehler Media, which has run the show for the past 13 years.

A special Broadway-themed segment of the show brought the hottest shows to life featuring an Alexander Hamilcat and also a bearded dragon rocking a vest inspired by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical “School of Rock”!

The big Gold Paw Award winners of the night were a threesome from Texas who arrived in full Dia de Los Muertos regalia, dressed and made up as life-size sugar skeletons along with their two Chihuahuas and a Yorkie

This event kicked off a weekend of pet-themed fun in New York, ahead of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show to be held next week.
