Guide Dogs Victoria has commissioned a six-part comic strip "Clark the Super Dog" about the adventures of the high-flying heroic pup in the lead up to their Dogs Unite walk. The comic strips follow guide dog Clark’s adventures around the world as he gathers heroic recruits for Dogs Unite from exciting places like Buckingham Palace to the White House and everywhere in between.

Guide Dogs Victoria chief executive Karen Hayes said Dogs Unite would raise money to help train more much-needed guide dogs.

“Dogs Unite is a community fundraising walk that we’re hosting at Hays Paddock in Kew on April 17, uniting dogs and their owners to walk together on the same day across Victoria to raise money to help breed, raise and train guide dogs to help change the lives of our vision impaired community,” Ms Hayes said.

“It’s a walk with a difference — dogs are the heroes for the day so they are the ones that will be sponsored to walk alongside their owners.”

It costs $10 to register and all pups present will receive a free hero cape, just like Clark’s. “This year we’re aiming to raise $35,000 in order to cover the cost of breeding, raising and training a guide dog,” Ms Hayes said.

“To help us promote the event a local artist has developed a series of six cartoon strips featuring our very adorable Dogs Unite mascot, Clark the heroic dog.

“The comic highlights the ethos of the event — that guide dogs are the real heroes of the canine world, being supported by all sorts of dogs from within the local community.

“We’d love to have as many keen walkers along at what will be a fantastic day with plenty of activities for both dogs and their human companions,” she said.

When: Sunday 17th April

Where: Hays Paddock, Kew, Victoria
Similar events will be held at the same time in Gisborne, Bendigo, Ballarat, and Geelong.
